Description

Overdoses of atypical (second generation) antipsychotic agents are relatively common.


Manifestations of an overdose with an atypical antipsychotic agent may include:

(1) sedation and CNS depression

(2) tachycardia

(3) hypotension and orthostatic hypotension

(4) prolongation of the QTc interval

(5) delirium

(6) neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)

(7) seizures

 

Airway management and ventilatory support may be required.
