A number of clinical and laboratory findings can help to diagnose a woman with vulvovaginal candidiasis.
Clinical features:
(1) vulval itching
(2) dyspareunia
(3) vulval irritation
(4) vaginal erythema and edema
(5) "curds" in vaginal discharge
Test findings:
(1) vaginal pH <= 4.5 (most acidic of infectious causes of vaginitis)
(2) amine odor test negative
(3) yeast pseudohyphae on microscopic exam
