Description

Radiation optic neuropathy may occur as a complication following radiation therapy involving an eye.


 

Clinical features:

(1) history of radiation to the eye

(2) concurrent radiation retinopathy

(3) early there is hyperemia and swelling of the optic disc

(4) eventually there is severe optic atrophy

(5) severe vision loss

 

Risk factors:

(1) concurrent chemotherapy

(2) diabetes mellitus
