Description

The clinical impact of Peyronie's Disease varies considerably, ranging from a minor nuisance to a serious problem for the patient.


 

The hallmark of the disease is a localized, firm fibrous plaque located in the tunica albuginea of the corpora cavernosa. The plaque is often large enough to be palpated manually or seen using ultrasonography.

The deformity will vary with the degree of penile erection.For monitoring the patient it is important to take measurements under the same conditions, typically at maximal erection following injection of a suitable drug.

 

Clinical findings in a patient with Peyronie's disease which can result in sexual dysfunction:

(1) pain, especially with an erection

(2) difficult intercourse

(3) erectile dysfunction, especially distal to the plaque

(4) emotional distress associated with the cosmetic deformity
