Mycoplasma genitalium is a common sexually-transmitted disease that is seen around the world.
Risk factors:
(1) sexually active with multiple partners
(2) female sex worker
Clinical features in the female:
(1) cervicitis
(2) endometritis
(3) endosalpingitis
(4) pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
(5) impaired fertility
(6) urethritis, acute or chronic (nongonococcal urethritis, NGU)
(7) possibly proctitis
(8) therapeutic failure to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotic (due to absence of cell wall)
