Description

Mephedrone is belongs to the cathinone and amphetamine classes. It is a designer drug with effects compared to cocaine and amphetamines.


 

Synonyms: 4-methylmethcathinone, 4-MMC, 4-methylephedrone, meph, MCAT, drone, “bath salt”

 

Routes of exposure: oral, intranasal (snorting), injection

 

Effects desired:

(1) euphoria and elevated mood

(2) stimulation

(3) enhanced appreciation for sensory inputs

(4) decreased hostility

 

Adverse side effects:

(1) hallucinations and paranoia

(2) nausea and vomiting

(3) anxiety and depression

(4) tachycardia

(5) diaphoresis (excessive sweating)

(6) mydriasis

(7) headache

(8) hypertension

(9) seizures

(10) agitation

(11) poor short-term memory

(12) nosebleeds (if snorted)

(13) peripheral vasoconstriction

(14) possibly male impotence

(15) dehydration

(16) dependency syndrome with chronic use
