A patient with folate deficiency may develop a number of clinical and laboratory findings.
Clinical features:
(1) clinical anemia (pallor, fatigue, tiredness, etc)
(2) depapillation and/or soreness of the tongue
(3) anorexia
(4) diarrhea
(5) forgetfulness
(6) behavioral changes (irritability, paranoia, etc)
(7) neural tube defects (in the fetus)
Laboratory findings:
(1) anemia with elevated MCV
(2) decreased serum folate concentration
