Diphenidol hydrochloride has antimuscarinic properties and is used as an antiemetic and in vertigo. It is useful in Meniere’s disease or labyrinthopathies. An overdose can be lethal even though the drug is viewed as relatively safe.
An overdose may be accidental or suicidal.
Adverse effects:
(1) drowsiness or sedation
(2) hypotension
(3) confusion
(4) hallucinations
(5) restlessness
(6) headache
(7) dry mouth
(8) other antimuscarinic effects
Overdose:
(1) facial flushing
(2) tachycardia
(3) cardiac arrhythmias
(3) agitation
(4) seizures
(5) altered mental status
(6) dyspnea, which may progress to respiratory failure
(7) mydriasis
(8) fever
(9) rapid deterioration
