Description

Collapsing glomerulopathy is associated with a number of clinical findings.

African Americans may have a higher risk for developing collapsing glomerulopathy.

Key clinical features:

(1) marked proteinuria with the nephrotic syndrome

(2) rapid decline in kidney function to end-stage renal disease

(3) poor response to corticosteroid therapy given alone

If an underlying cause cannot be controlled then the prognosis is poor. Control of proteinuria can improve the outcome.
