Description

Central nervous system in a patient with paracoccidioidomycosis (neuroparacoccidioidomycosis) is usually the result of systemic disease.


 

Involvement of the central nervous system may involve:

(1) meningitis

(2) meningoencephalitis

(3) meningoradiculitis

(4) mass lesion

 

Clinical findings may include:

(1) seizures

(2) headache or migraine

(3) pseudotumor cerebri

(4) hemiparesis

(5) cerebellar signs

(6) hydrocephalus

 

Diagnosis can be made based on:

(1) histologic examination of a biopsy

(2) fungal culture

(3) history of exposure and clinical findings
