Cellulite is a cosmetic problem that primarily affects women.
Clincal features of cellulite:
(1) localized skin disorder with herniation of subcutaneous fat into the dermis
(2) dimpling and nodularity of the skin that may resemble a mattress or orange-peel
(3) primarily affects postpubertal females
Cellulite may occur independent of the percent body fat, but it is accentuated as the amount of body fat increases. Affected patients have a higher percent of thin fibrous hypodermal septae oriented perpendicular to the epidermis.
Sites most commonly affected:
(1) pelvic region
(2) thighs
(3) abdomen
The condition tends to be bilateral.
