Description

Cellulite is a cosmetic problem that primarily affects women.

Clincal features of cellulite:

(1) localized skin disorder with herniation of subcutaneous fat into the dermis

(2) dimpling and nodularity of the skin that may resemble a mattress or orange-peel

(3) primarily affects postpubertal females

Cellulite may occur independent of the percent body fat, but it is accentuated as the amount of body fat increases. Affected patients have a higher percent of thin fibrous hypodermal septae oriented perpendicular to the epidermis.

Sites most commonly affected:

(1) pelvic region

(2) thighs

(3) abdomen

The condition tends to be bilateral.
