Tizanidine hydrochloride is a central muscle relaxant and antispasmodic. It may have a number of adverse effects if taken in overdose.
Action: alpha-2 receptor stimulant
Cardiovascular effects:
(1) SA node dysfunction with bradycardia
(2) AV node dysfunction
(3) hypotension
(4) QT prolongation
(5) torsades de pointes
Renal effects:
(1) acute kidney injury
(2) potassium-wasting nephropathy, causing hypokalemia
CNS effects:
(1) agitation
(2) lethargy
(3) confusion
(4) coma
(5) respiratory depression
Other effects:
(1) vomiting
(2) toxic hepatitis
