Aerobic vaginitis presents with a number of clinical findings.
Clinical features:
(1) vaginal soreness and irritation
(2) dyspareunia
(3) purulent discharge
(4) vaginal erythema and edema
(5) vaginal ulceration
Test findings:
(1) vaginal pH > 4.5
(2) amine odor test negative
(3) positive wet mount with elevated aerobic vaginitis score of Donders et al
Culture is required to identify the pathogen. Common pathogens include:
(1) Streptococcus agalactiae
(2) Staphylococcus aureus
(3) E. coli
(4) Neisseria gonorrhoeae
