Buffalopox is a zoonosis of buffalo and cattle that can spread to humans.
Virus: buffalopox virus (BPXV), which is an Orthopoxvirus and related to Vaccinia virus
Humans at risk: animal attendants, farmers, milkers
It can occur in epidemics, which increases the risk of human infection.
Clinical findings in humans:
(1) high fever
(2) vesicular rash that progresses to a pustular lesion
(3) pain and edema in skin lesions
(4) general malaise
(5) regional lymphadenopathy
Diagnosis can be made by PCR, electron microscopy or other method.
