Description

Brandner et al reported the Clinical Course Score (CCS) for evaluating patients who have had traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage. This can help to determine the efficacy of different therapies. The authors are from University Hospital Erlangen in Germany.

Patient selection: traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage

Parameters:

(1) reduced Glasgow Coma Scale (R-GCS) on admission, see below

(2) Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) 6 months after discharge, from 1 to 5

clinical course score =

= (GOS) - (R-GCS)

Interpretation:

• minimum CCS: -4

• maximum CCS: +4

• Mild TBI or SAH are often associated with negative CCS.

• Severe TBI or SAH are often associated with positive CCS.
