Soriano et al reported a clinical case definition for a post COVID-19 condition based on a Delphi consensus. The authors are from multiple institutions in Europe and Canada.
Definition for post-COVID-19 conditions:
(1) history of probable or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection
(2) present>= 3 months from the onset of COVID-19
(3) duration >= 2 months
(4) cannot be explained by another diagnosis
(5) have an impact on everyday functioning (disabling)
Common symptoms mayinclude:
(1) fatigue
(2) shortness of breath
(3) cognitive dysfunction
Symptoms:
(1) may fluctuate over time and/or relapse
(2) may start with the acute infection and persist, orbegin after initial recovery from COVID-19
(3) may cluster (several symptoms occurring together and related to each other)
A separate case definition may be needed in subpopulations (pediatric, elderly, other).
