Acro-osteolysis is an uncommon disorder affecting the distal phalanges.
Features of acro-osteolysis:
(1) shortening of multiple digits affecting the hands and/or feet
(2) variable decrease in grip strength and hand function
Imaging studies show osteolysis of the distal phalanges with midphalangeal band-like resorption.
It is important to identify an underlying cause since this can help guide therapy.
