Description

Chen et al reported clinical and laboratory findings that are found more often in patients who die of COVID-19 than in those who survive. The authors are from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan.


Patient selection: COVID-19

 

Clinical findings found more often in those who died:

(1) older age (median age 68 years)

(2) male sex

(3) disorder of consciousness

(4) history of chronic hypertension

(5) history of cardiovascular disease

(6) acute respiratory distress syndrome and respiratory failure

(7) sepsis

(8) acute heart failure

(9) myocarditis

(10) acute kidney injury

(11) multi-organ failure

 

Laboratory findings found more often in those who died:

(1) elevated serum ALT

(2) elevated serum AST

(3) elevated serum creatinine

(4) elevated serum CK

(5) elevated serum LDH

(6) elevated serum troponin I

(7) elevated NT-proBNP

(8) elevated D-dimer

(9) leukocytosis

(10) lymphopenia

(11) hyperkalemia
