Secretory diarrhea has a number of clinical and laboratory findings.
Clinical features:
(1) watery stool
(2) large volume (often > 1 liter per day)
(3) persists if the person fasts (opposite to osmotic diarrhea)
Laboratory findings:
(1) hypokalemia
(2) measured stool osmolarity closely matches calculated osmolarity (no unmeasured osmotically-active molecules)
