Description

Many people who are infected with Toxoplasma gondii have no or mild symptoms. Theologides and Kennedy classified the spectrum of disease that potentially may occur as acute toxoplasmosis.

Features

infectious mononucleosis like (glandular)

heterophile antibody-negative mononucleosis with lymphadenopathy, headache, variable fever and malaise

typhus-like (miliary or acute systemic)

maculopapular rash, fever, atypical pneumonia, variable myocarditis, variable lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly

single organ

uveitis, meningoencephalitis, myocarditis, pneumonia, myositis, hepatitis
