Description

The AO-ASIF (Arbeitsgemeinschaft fur Osteosynthesefragen, Association for the Study of Internal Fixation) developed a classification system for fractures, based on location and type of fracture.

Code for location: 22 (radius/ulna, diaphysis)

Locations:

(1) simple fracture (A)

(2) wedge fracture (B)

(3) complex fracture (C)

Simple Fracture

Type of Fracture

Fracture Code

simple fracture of ulna, radius intact

oblique

A1.1

transverse

A1.2

with dislocation of the radial head (Monteggia)

A1.3

simple fracture of radius, ulna intact

oblique

A2.1

transverse

A2.2

with dislocation of the distal radio-ulnar joint (Galeazzi)

A2.3

simple fractures of both radius and ulna

radius, proximal zone

A3.1

radius, middle zone

A3.2

radius, distal zone

A3.3

Wedge Fracture

Type of Fracture

Fracture Code

wedge fracture of ulna, radius intact

intact wedge

fragmented wedge

B1.2

with dislocation of the radial head (Monteggia)

B1.3

wedge fracture of radius, ulna intact

intact wedge

B2.1

fragmented wedge

B2.2

with dislocation of the distal radio-ulnar joint (Galeazzi)

B2.3

wedge fracture one bone, simple or wedge fracture of other

ulnar wedge and simple fracture of the radius

B3.1

radial wedge and simple fracture of the ulna

B3.2

ulnar and radial wedge fractures

C1.3

complex fracture of the radius

bifocal, ulna intact

C2.1

bifocal, ulnar fractured

C2.2
