Pilloni and Rojas proposed a classification for furcation involvement. The authors are from Sapienza University of Rome.


Furcation involvement is present when periodontal disease has caused resorption of bone into the bi- or tri-furcation area of a multi-rooted tooth.

 

Classification:

(1) type (N if not clinically exposed, E if clinical exposed)

(2) grade (from I to III)
