Middleton et al prospectively evaluated men for testicular microlithiasis using ultrasonography. The authors are from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

(3) total number of microliths in the left and right testis

The frequency of CTM was 1 in 27 males.
The frequency of LTM was 1 in 7 males.
The frequency of a testicular tumor in a patient with CTM or LTM is n the range of 5-10%, which is significantly less than previous estimates of 30-40% (which may have been subject to selection bias associated with retrospective analysis).
