Marinoff and Turner classified women with the vulvar vaginitis syndrome based on the level of dyspareunia experienced.

Clinical Findings	Level of Dyspareunia
no discomfort	0
discomfort but not sufficient to prevent sexual intercourse	I
discomfort that frequently but not always prevents sexual intercourse	II
discomfort that completely prevents sexual intercourse	III
