Description

Lansinger et al classified tibial condylar fractures based on the topographic appearance. The authors are from Goteburg, Sweden.

Classification for tibial condylar fractures:

(1) lateral condyle

(2) medial condyle

(3) bicondylar (both medial and lateral)

Most condylar fractures are caused by the anterior portion of the lateral femoral condyle being driven into the lateral tibial plateau, with compression/depression of the bone.

Subclassification for fractures of the lateral condyle:

(1) split fracture (without depression)

(2) depressed fracture (without split)

(3) combined split-depressed fracture

NOTE: Concurrent fracture of the fibula is not included in the scheme.
