Landriel Ibanez et al reported a classification for neurosurgical complications which is a modification of the Clavien-Dindo classification.
Patient selection: neurosurgical complication
A complication was any deviation from the normal postoperative course.
Complications are separated into medical and surgical complications:
(1) medical: not directly related to surgery or surgical technique (infection, DVT, etc)
(2) surgical: directly related to surgery or surgical technique
Parameters for grading a complication:
(1) life-threatening
(2) invasive intervention required (surgical, endoscopic, radiologic)
(3) additional findings
