Classification of Kiuchi et al for the Graft-to-Recipient Weight Ratio (GRWR) for a Liver Transplant from a Living Donor

 

Parameters:

(1) weight of the liver to be transplanted in grams

(2) body weight of the recipient in grams

 

GRWR =

= (weight of liver to be transplanted) / (body weight of recipient)

 

GRWR	Transplant Designation
< 0.8%	extra-small (XS)
0.8 to 0.99%	small (S)
1.0 to 2.99%	medium (M)
3 to 4.99%	large (L)
>= 5%	extra-large (XL)

 

Extra-small and small transplants tend to have more problems than larger transplants with lower rates of graft survival. These can be successful but greater attention must be paid in how the graft is handled.
