Description

Graziani et al classified the severity of atherosclerosis in a lower extremity based on changes seen on angiography.


Patient selection: diabetic with foot ulcer

 

Arteries:

(1) femoral

(2) popliteal

(3) anterior tibial

(4) posterior tibial

(5) peroneal

 

Options for each artery - one of the following:

(1) patent without obstruction

(2) number of occlusions

(3) occluded

 

Findings on Angiography

Class

single obstruction in the anterior tibial, right tibial, or peroneal

1

single obstruction in femoral or popliteal artery

2a

2 below the knee arteries (tibial, peroneal) obstructed with one tibial patent

2a

2 below the knee arteries (tibial, peroneal) obstructed with peroneal patent

2b

1 artery occluded AND multiple obstructions in any of the remaining arteries

3

2 arteries occluded AND multiple obstructions in any of the remaining arteries

4

all 3 below the knee arteries occluded

5

3 arteries occluded and multiple obstructions in any of the remaining arteries

6

all 3 below the knee arteries occluded with multiple occlusions in femoral and/or popliteal arteries
