Classification of Catagni for Fibular Hemimelia

Description

Catagni classified fibular hemimelia based on the severity of the defect. It should not be used when other lower limb deficiencies are the major or overriding defect.

mild shortening	usually mild	I
moderate to severe shortening	moderate to severe	II
functionally absent	severe and multiple	III

	Grade I	Grade II	Grade III
tibia	mild shortening without angular deformity	moderate shortening with angular deformities	severe deformity and shortening
femur	no significant angular deformity	variable shortening	usually shortened
knee	usually stable	hypoplasia of the lateral femoral condyle with knee instability	hypoplasia of the lateral femoral condyle with valgus and knee instability
ankle	usually stable	no functional lateral malleolus (variable hypoplasia); ankle instability with equinovalgus	ankle dislocation with equinovarus
foot	no significant deformity	often deformed	deformed
