Classification of Allman for Injury to the Acromioclavicular Joint

Allman classified traumatic separation of the acromioclavicular joint. The author is from the Atlanta Orthopedic Clinic.

Parameters:

(1) injury to the capsule and acromioclavicular ligament

(2) rupture of the coracoclavicular ligament

where:

• A Grade I injury is caused by a mild force and is referred to as a sprain.

• A Grade II injury is caused by moderate force and may be referred to as a subluxation..

• A Grade III injury is caused by a severe force and may be referred to as a dislocation.
