Description

Moise et al used a classification and regression tree (CART) analysis to evaluate the response of a nosocomial pneumonia due to Staphylococcus aureus to vancomycin therapy. The authors are from Millard Fillmore Hospital and State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo.

The culture isolates consists of both methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus.

Parameters:

(1) ratio of the area under the antibiotic curve to MIC

(2) number of days between admission and onset of the lower respiratory tract infection (length of stay prior to occurrence of the lower respiratory tract infection)

(3) estimated creatinine clearance in mL per min

The area under the 24 hour antibiotic curve is reported in mg • h/L

The MIC is reported in µg/mL, which is equivalent to mg/L
