Techanivate et al reported a formula for the length of an orotracheal tube. The authors are from Chulalongkorn University, which appears to be the source for Chula.
Patient selection: adult Thai (21-75 years in females; 29-79 years in males)
Proper positioning of tube:
(1) tip of tube above carina >= 2 cm
(2) upper border of cuff >= 2 cm below the vocal cords
Parameters:
(1) height in centimeters
length of orotracheal tube in cm from the right upper canine =
= ((height) / 10) + 4
