Description

Hassell et al used the chronic salvage index to determine the percentage of the left ventricle that is viable following an inferior ST-elevated myocardial infarction. The authors are from AMC Medical Center of Amsterdam, Maastricht University, Duke University, Catharina Hospital (Eindhoven), and the University of Washington.

Patient selection: inferior ST-segment elevated acute myocardial infarction

Parameters:

(1) Aldrich score for an inferior AMI (see 07.03.05) at the time of admission

(2) Selvester score (see 07.03.02, maximum score 32) at the time of admission

(2) Selvester score (see 07.03.02, maximum score 32) at 3 months after the AMI

chronic salvage index =

= ((initial Aldrich score) + (initial Selvester score) - (followup Selvester score)) / ((initial Aldrich score) + (initial Selvester score)) * 100%

Interpretation:

• The chronic salvage index reflects the percentage of the left ventricle that remains viable following myocardial salvage and infarct healing.
