Capnocytophaga species are Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria that are present in the oral flora of humans and animals.
Chorioamnionitis may occur with the membranes intact.
Risk factors for infection:
(1) immunodeficiency/immunosuppression
(2) asplenia
(3) animal or human bite
(4) orogenital contact
Clinical features may include:
(1) high fever
(2) uterine tenderness
Complications:
(1) preterm birth
(2) maternal sepsis
(3) neonatal sepsis
