Chemsex refers to the use of drugs of abuse during sexual activity. While more common with homosexual males it can be seen in other groups as well.
Reasons for the combination:
(1) greater orgasm intensity
(2) greater feelings of intimacy
Drugs of abuse may include:
(1) marijuana
(2) cocaine
(3) methamphetamine
(4) ecstasy/MDMA
(5) GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate)
(6) alkyl nitrites
(7) mephredone
Other drugs used:
(1) sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil
Hazards of chemsex:
(1) transmission of sexually-transmitted diseases
(2) sudden death from overdose
(3) death or injury from other ways to enhance sex such as asphyxiation
