Description

Exposure to a number of chemicals can result in frostbite injury.


Chemicals associated with frostbite may include:

(1) liquefied or solidified gas

(2) propellant for aerosol can

(3) refrigerants for air-conditioning or refrigeration

 

Chemicals capable of causing frostbite include:

(1) dry ice (carbon dioxide)

(2) liquid nitrogen

(3) liquid oxygen

(4) liquid ammonia

(5) 1,3-butadiene

(6) freon

(7) propane

(8) propylene

(9) butane

(10) ethyl chloride

(11) liquefied petroleum gas

 

Body surfaces that may be affected include:

(1) skin

(2) eye

(3) oral

(4) airway

 

Cause for exposure:

(1) industrial production

(2) transport accident

(3) accident during use

(4) misuse of product, including use by children and as substance abuse

(5) failure to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
