Description

An instrument may need to be moved for a number of reasons. A number of steps should be taken to bring it back into service.

Issues:

(1) How significant is the move?

(2) Will the instrument be in storage for any length of time?

(3) Are there components that need to be carefully aligned?

Checklist:

(1) Make sure that the instrument can be moved to the new location (elevators, corridors, doors, turns, etc).

(2) Make sure that new location has adequate electricity, water, venting, etc.

(3) Seek assistance from field service for the instrument manufacturer.

(4) Make sure that all parts are secured and protected from damage.

(5) Reassemble the instrument at the new location.

(6) Make sure that all of the components are working properly.

(7) Recalibrate or perform calibration verification.

(8) Verify the analytical range for the instrument.

(9) Retest a sufficient number of patient samples and controls run on the instrument prior to the move and compare results.

(10) Check precision for the assays.

(11) Make sure that the computer interface is working properly.
