A patient with an eating disorder (anorexia nervosa, bulimia) is at increased risk for changes to the electocardiogram (ECG).
ECG changes may include:
(1) bradycardia
(2) atrioventricular block
(3) QT interval prolongation
(4) ST segment depression
(5) T-wave inversion
(6) sinus arrest or wandering atrial pacemaker
(7) supraventricular tachyarrhythmia
(8) ventricular tachyarrhythmia
(9) nodal escape beats
(10) changes associated with hypokalemia
The QT interval prolongation and ventricular tachyarrhythmias may be associated with sudden death.
Fortunately most of the abnormalities are reversible if the body weigh can be normalized.
