As a healthcare organization increases in size and cpmplexity, the people in its management are at risk for developing "CEO-it is" as the power increases.


 

Features of CEO-itis may include:

(1) arrogant and imperious

(2) blindness (loss of insight and awareness)

(3) deafness to suggestions made by colleagues

(4) isolation from people providing healthy interactions or feedback

(5) tendency to surround self with sycophants

(6) difficulty to admit and to correct mistakes

(7) abuse of benefits

 

These features can lead to a deterioration in performance and can damage the organization. The affected person may be totally unaware that there is a problem until it is too late.
