The Centrality Index (C-index) is a measure of a renal tumor's location relative to the center of the kidney.
Patient selection: renal tumor
Parameters:
(1) central distance in cm (distance between the central point of the kidney and the center of the tumor)
(2) tumor radius in cm
centrality index =
= (central distance) / (radius of the tumor)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: depends on the location and the size of tumor
• A C index of 0 indicates that the center of the tumor is at the center of the kidney.
• The lower the index the greater the operative complexity for partial nephrectomy.
