A cytocentrifuge can be used to prepare a smear of a body fluid. The number of cells seen in the smear depends on the cell count in the fluid and the volume of fluid used to prepare the smear.

number of cells available to examine =

= (number of cells per microliter) * (1000 * (number of mL used))

number of mLs to use =

= (number of cells available to examine) / (1000 * (number of cells per microliter))

number of cells per microliter =

= (number of cells available to examine) / (1000 * (number of mL used))
