Description

Infection following circumcision in the male infant can be diagnosed by meeting one of the following criteria.


 

Criteria 1 - all of the following:

(1) age <= 30 days

(2) male with history of circumcision

(3) purulent drainage from circumcision site

 

Criteria 2 - all of the following:

(1) age <= 30 days

(2) male with history of circumcision

(3) at least one of the following present:

(3a) erythema

(3b) swelling

(3c) tenderness at circumcision site

(4) pathogen isolated from culture of circumcision site

 

Criteria 3 - all of the following:

(1) age <= 30 days

(2) male with history of circumcision

(3) at least one of the following present:

(3a) erythema

(3b) swelling

(3c) tenderness at circumcision site

(4) skin contaminant isolated from culture of circumcision site

(5) at least one of the following:

(5a) physician's diagnosis of circumcision infection

(5b) physician institutes appropriate antimicrobial therapy
