Description

A number of organisms can infect the seminal vesicles. Sometimes this is an acute infection but it can become chronic.

Seminal vesiculitis often occurs together with infection of other sites (prostate, epididymis) but can occur by itself as well.

Causes of seminal vesiculitis:

(1) bacteria including Neisseria gonorrhoeae

(2) fungi

(3) Chlamydia trachomatis

(4) Mycobacterium tuberculosis

(5) atypical mycobacteria

(6) Schistosomiasis
