Pancreatitis is less common in pediatric patients than in adults but can occur if certain conditions are present.
Conditions associated with pancreatitis in pediatric patients:
(1) infection (mumps, chickenpox, other)
(2) drugs
(3) trauma
(4) gallstones
(5) choledochal cyst
(6) hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS)
(7) cystic fibrosis
(8) toxin (copper sulphate)
(9) familial pancreatitis
(10) familial hypertriglyceridemia
(11) multi-organ failure
