Description

Optic perineuritis (OPN) may occur in a number of infectious and immune disorders.


 

Infectious causes of optic perineuritis:

(1) syphilis

(2) tuberculosis

(3) Herpes zoster

(4) other

 

Immune causes of optic perineuritis:

(1) sarcoidosis

(2) Wegener's granulomatosis

(3) temporal (giant cell) arteritis

(4) Crohn's disease

(5) other

 

In some cases no cause is identified and the case is then termed idiopathic.
