Description

Pulmonary fat embolism usually is associated with trauma. Occasionally it can occur by other mechanisms.


Tumor

(1) angiomyolipoma

(2) renal cell carcinoma with intratumoral fat

 

Liposuction

Lipoinjection

 

Surgery (which may be considered a form of trauma):

(1) spinal fusion

(2) reaming of the femur

 

Fatty liver

 

Bone marrow necrosis (sickle cell anemia, other)

 

Sudden decompression
