Description

Membranous glomerulopathy may be associated with a number of conditions. Controlling the cause is important for managing the glomerulopathy.


 

Causes of membranous glomerulopathy:

(1) systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

(2) rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

(3) mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD)

(4) Sjogren’s syndrome

(5) autoimmune thyroiditis

(6) primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC)

(7) ankylosing spondylitis

(8) Crohn’s disease

(9) hepatitis B or C

(10) syphilis

(11) schistosomiasis

(12) malaria

(13) filariasis

(14) gold salts

(15) penicillamine

(16) captropril

(17) mercury

(18) trimethadione

(19) bucillamine

(20) paraneoplastic syndrome (see below)

(21) sarcoidosis

(22) sickle cell disease

(23) Guillain-Barre syndrome

(24) angiofollicular lymph node hyperplasia (Castleman’s disease)

 

Tumors associated with paraneoplastic membranous glomerulopathy:

(1) carcinoma of the lung

(2) carcinoma of the breast

(3) carcinoma of the stomach

(4) carcinoma of the colon

(5) carcinoma of the kidney

(6) carcinoma of the pancreas

(7) carcinoma of the prostate

(8) carcinoma of the cervix

(9) Wilm’s tumor

(10) lymphocytic leukemia

(11) non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma

(12) Hodgkin’s lymphoma

(13) malignant melanoma
