The eyelids may become necrotic in a number of conditions.
Causes of eyelid necrosis:
(1) drugs (vitamin K antagonists, aminoglycosides, amphotericin, nafcillin, etc)
(2) thermal facial burn
(3) chemical facial burn
(4) electrical facial burn
(5) trauma
(6) periorbital infection (cellulitis, necrotizing fasciitis)
(7) vasculitis
Vitamin K antagonists are a group of drugs associated with eyelid necrosis. This may relate to thrombois associated with protein A or protein C deficiency.
