Description

Eccentric vision can occur due to a number of causes. Identification of the cause can help determine the best corrective action.


Eccentric vision refers to the vision of the patient being best when s/he is not directly looking at the object.

 

Conditions associated with eccentric vision:

(1) central scotoma

(2) craniopharyngioma

(3) eccentric fixation with amblyopia

(4) ectopic macula

(5) glaucoma

(6) homonymous hemianopsia with macular involvement

(7) macular scar (from trauma, age-related macular degeneration or other cause)

 

where:

• Acquired ectopic macula can occur with retinal scarring, which can follow retinopathy of prematurity.
