Description

A number of drugs may be associated with a chronic thyroiditis.


General features of drug-induced conditions:

(1) absence of thyroiditis prior to starting the drug

(2) resolution of the thyroiditis after stopping the drug

(3) recurrence of the thyroiditis after drug re-exposure

(4) presence of an alternative explanation for the thyroiditis

 

Drugs associated with thyroiditis:

(1) amiodarone

(2) denileukin (interleukin-2 merged with diphtheria toxin; discontinued)

(3) interferon alfa

(4) interleukin-2

(5) kinase inhibitors

(6) lithium

(7) checkpoint inhibitors

(8) minocycline

(9) iodine
